Neurosurgical Consultations
A neurosurgical consultation gives you a surgeon's reading of your diagnosis and imaging. If an operation has been recommended, you learn what it is meant to achieve and what the alternatives are.

Least Invasive Care First
Four Pennsylvania Offices
Axon Neurosurgery is a neurosurgical and pain care practice led by Christopher Bilbao, D.O., a board-certified neurosurgeon trained in brain and spine surgery. Patients come here with spine, nerve and chronic pain conditions, and often with a surgery recommendation they want to understand before they agree to it.
That lets the practice put its time into what comes before and around an operation: a thorough neurological evaluation, a review of your imaging, and a treatment plan that starts with the least invasive option appropriate for your condition.
When surgery is the right answer, you leave knowing why, what it can and cannot fix, and which questions to put to your operating surgeon. When it is not, care continues here through minimally invasive procedures, pain management and medication management.

Learn MoreMinimally invasive procedures treat spine and nerve pain without open surgery. Each one is chosen for the source of your pain that the evaluation identified.
Learn MorePain management here is a plan rather than a single visit: evaluation, treatment and regular review as your condition changes.

About Dr. Bilbao
A neurosurgical consultation with Dr. Bilbao looks at your symptoms, examination and imaging through the eyes of a spine and brain surgeon. If surgery has been recommended elsewhere, it is a chance to understand why and what other options exist.

A spinal consultation sorts out where back or neck pain is actually coming from. The answer decides whether treatment starts with conservative care, a procedure or a conversation about surgery.

A neurological evaluation tests strength, sensation and reflexes to find which nerve is involved and how. It is the groundwork for every treatment decision made in this practice.

Minimally invasive procedures target the source of spine and nerve pain without open surgery. We explain what each procedure involves, who it may help and its limits before you decide.

Pain management at Axon Neurosurgery combines evaluation, treatment planning and ongoing care for chronic spine and nerve pain. The plan is reviewed as you respond rather than repeated unchanged.

Medication management means a clear plan for what you take, why, and how it is monitored. Dr. Bilbao coordinates with your other physicians so treatment stays consistent.

Trigger point therapy treats tight, painful knots in muscle that often build around a spine problem. Releasing them can ease pain that spreads into the neck, shoulders or back.

Alternative treatment for spinal injuries gives patients options beyond an operation. It suits people who want to try nonsurgical care first, or who are not candidates for surgery.

A surgery recommendation is a big decision to make on one opinion. A neurosurgical consultation at Axon Neurosurgery gives you an experienced surgeon’s perspective on your case, from a physician who is not the one scheduling the operation.
